Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another episode of Explode Your Expert Biz show.
We are live and really excited about this episode because today we are talking about how to create a book to explode your expert business. That’s what we are talking about today and that’s why I am abso-freaking-lutely excited about this show.
Now, the reason why it’s important to have a book in particular in your business is that because in this way you will be able to reach more people and you will be able to get more clients, you will be able to expand your audience, and you will be able to have a lot of great benefits. That’s what we’re going to talk about.
So, thank you very much for joining here live.
And, as I said, today we are talking about how to create a great, great launch, a great business, with your book. So, that’s what we’re talking about today.
Now, there are a few things that are really important to mention regarding your process of writing the book.
And this is something that you want to start thinking ahead when you’re planning the book.
And the reason why I’m saying this it is because I wrote now four books and three of these have been published.
One, Explode Your Expert Biz, is going to be published very soon.
And I made good money with those books, in particular selling them. Some of them made no money but they were great for PR and for positioning.
Which is the reason why I decided to write those books. But first of all, you’ll want to think about why are you writing the book in the first place. Why?
Why are you doing it? Because your why will determine the strategy that then you are going to use. Now, if you don’t know what strategy you are going to use, then you will not be able to be effective with your strategy and that’s a big problem.
So, is the book designed to help you sell more products and services? Is the book designed just to give you more authority in your space?
Is the book designed because you have nothing to do?
So, there are a few things you need to consider and to take care of. Now what I love, and I think one of the things that is important and is crucial to consider at this stage, is that when you’re writing a book and you’re writing it for someone else- Let’s say for example, you just want to have the book to build your brand and you don’t want to sell more programmes, you want to create something simple.
It doesn’t have to be a master project, it doesn’t have to be something that is going to take you a long time. For example, I wrote my first book when I was 23 and I gave myself 30 days from idea to publishing.
So, the 30th day the book was going to be published and I could sell copies of the book.
Now, it went incredibly well because I made the book very simple to create for me and very simple to read for other people.
So, I got a bunch of quotes that I thought were really powerful and then I put on one page the quote, and then the other page my thoughts around it.
Now, that book wasn’t designed to sell my products or services, but was designed to help me with my positioning.
So then, I could have a book to sell at my seminars or at my talks, or at least I could say I wrote a book, I’m an author.
Because in your jump from expert to authority, you must have a book. It’s not something that is nice to have right now, it’s a must have.
Like for example, if you missed the interview that we did with Gianluca Massini Rosati, he made more than seven figures in a book launch that he did last year.
And you can listen to episode number 101, when I’m interviewing him and you can also see the live interview on our blog post and Facebook Live that we did.
And that’s something that if you want to become an authority there are no other options than having a book.
Otherwise, you will be an expert like a lot of other experts are where they claim to be experts, but no one is really caring about them.
Just because you don’t have the piece.
Now, if you want to put things on a new level once you create your signature programme which is you methodology, the way you do things, once you create that then you’ll want to create a book that talks with the same intent, that shares the same content, that shares the same methodology.
So then, people can have a different way, an easier way, to experience your content.
A cheaper way, to experience your content, without going through a video course, an online course, and this course and this other course, and so on.
And this other course, and this other course, but they can just read the book with your methodology. And that’s why it’s crucial to have it as part of your positioning.
Now, to create a book around your methodology and to create a book that has a bigger purpose around it which is not only to sell but also to get people to buy more products or services, then at that point you want to be very smart in the way that you’re positioning.
You want to very smart in the way that you create it.
So, how can we be smart? How can we create this in a very smart way?
Well, first of all, as I said the content of the book needs to be linked to your signature programme, needs to be linked to things you teach to your high-end client. Why? Because that’s a first step for a client to experience your results. It’s the first step to offer a client to experience what you’re talking about and that’s why it’s crucial.
Then, the other thing that you want to think about is what’s the next step when you’re writing the book. Okay, where are you directing people?
Because now there is an ecosystem, when you’re writing book there is an ecosystem, between where they are offline which is they’re consuming the book offline or they might be reading it on Kindle, on an eBook, or they might be reading it on a paper book format. But, when the buy it from Amazon or Barnes and Noble, or WMH, WHS, I don’t remember.
But once they but it from a physical store, you don’t have the data of these people so there are a bunch of people who are buying the book but you don’t have any data, you don’t have any way to follow up with them.
So, what you must create is a way to create an interactive experience between a membership site that is just designed for people, or resources that are just designed for people, that are going through the book.
So then, they’re going there and having this interactive experience by meeting you offline reading the book, and then going online where you actually get them to put their name, their phone number, their email address.
And then you have this great way to follow up with them.
However, if you don’t do that why are you writing the book?
And if you don’t start thinking about it up front, then it’s already too late because the structure of the book will be designed in a way to get people from online to offline to download the resources and then ultimately give you their name and email address or subscribe to a bot where you can then follow up with them, and then upsell other different services.
And that’s for example, in the interview that we did with Gianluca, he made seven figures with the book launch.
The seven figures weren’t made on the book sales.
Like yes, he made money because he packed a room with thousands of people that wanted to hear him speak during his book launch and so they would book him a ticket for an event where he was delivering a training and included, they would have their book.
But then he was generating inquiries for his business and it was generating consultations through his business from his book.
So that’s how you can create, that’s how you must create, a book right now.
It’s not you can create, but if you’re not doing it you’re already out of the game. It’s all part of an ecosystem.
Now, you don’t want to create a membership site, create private resources, that people can download. And then, when talking about and thinking about the title of the book think about your brand.
What’s the title of your signature programme?
So, when we teach our clients in our three day Explode Your Expert Biz intensive, how to create a signature programme, we talk about consistency.
Now, if you look at Explode Your Expert Biz for example at GTeX, everything is Explode Your Expert Biz. We have our podcast which is Explode Your Expert Biz.
We have our Facebook group which is Explode Your Expert Biz community.
We have our three day intensive which is our Explode Your Expert Biz intensive. And then we have our lifetime membership, guess what?
Explode Your Expert Biz lifetime membership which is the higher end programme.
So, everything is branded under one name and then there are all different parts of the programme that people can buy or the different experiences that they can have. The membership site, again, what’s that?
Explode Your Expert Biz online academy. So, everything has the name as the same because our methodology is Explode Your Expert Biz methodology, right?
So, everything is created that way.
Now, that makes simpler the whole entire creation process of your content, of your material, of your programme, and everything else that you create from it because everything communicates with each other.
The biggest problem that a lot of people have is that they have too many ideas, for example, on how to write the book, and how to launch it, and different topics they want to write about the book.
And that’s fine, and that’s legitimate, but then if you’re writing about, if you have a passion about helping people find their purpose and you are marketing coach, you better write the book about bloody freaking marketing so then people can actually buy your services.
It doesn’t make sense, like it’s not rocket science, but a lot of people are still making these mistakes.
And then, what you want to make sure is that your book is a vehicle to get other clients buying, for example, it can be a membership site, buying an online course, or attending a webinar where you can sell them your consultation, your consulting, your coaching.
These are all the different ways that you need to think about even before you start writing the book. You’re looking at where is this going?
Why is this important for me? How can I benefit from this book?
Because I have no doubt already that your content is great, that your information is life changing. If they are not, you shouldn’t even write a freaking book. I mean, why would you write a piece of rubbish to put it out there?
Right, don’t even listen to me. I don’t want you to even to talk to us. We work with and we want to communicate with experts they are knowing what they are doing, that have years and experience and expertise behind what they do. And that’s what the market wants, that’s what you customers want.
They want someone who is not waking up one day and say I can do this, but they want someone with a proven track record.
So, the information that you will put in the book they are going to be mind blowing, they’re going to be the information that is the same that you’re giving to your clients, to your high end clients when they work with you.
Because then they will need your help, they will need your support, and that’s why they bought the book first because they said let me learn about you, let me learn about this topic, let me learn about this concept.
And then from there, you’re saying okay, now I’m ready to engage with you, now I’m ready to take the next step.
What is that? Is that a seminar? Is it an online course? Is it a webinar? Is it consultation?
But make sure that it’s clear up front where is your journey. In fact, because we are releasing soon our Explode Your Expert Biz book everything is integrated with our membership site.
There are going to be course that are going to be part of the book, and people will go through the book and then will go online and do the course and that becomes an interactive experience with the aim for them to book a consultation or to attend one of our three days live events.
And that’s crucial that you start thinking what is the end goal?
And that’s why it is important.
Now, another thing that you want to consider when you’re publishing it and when you’re writing a book, think about do you want to go with a publishing company, through a publishing house?
Or do you want to self-publish it?
Now, there are pros and cons with everything.
If you decide to write a book and self-publish, it is the easier option particularly if it’s the first one you’re writing.
Unless you are someone who is already well connected or unless you are someone who already has a huge following and you have publishing houses that they want you because you know that if they promote you then they are going to have a lot of people buying the book.
Then all the other publishing houses that I found, you’re just better self-publishing and work with someone that can help you self-publish through that process.
Because otherwise, they’re just going to take royalties most of them for doing no work at all. And you don’t want to go into that kind of agreement.
And then, when you’re ready to launch now think about what is a book launch that I can do so then your year of launch where all you are talking about is promoting your book.
Because then remember the book is the front end of the funnel for something else to happen.
For the membership site, for the event, for your consultations, and so on. Your book becomes your best business card.
So, think about upfront what can I create as a launch?
What kind of event could I create? How can I promote the book, not only to my network but also to other people?
So, what affiliate do I need to contact for them to share about the book? What is going to be my launch strategy to get to be an Amazon bestseller?
Because even if all this thing about Amazon bestseller is, like I say, just a little bit of a joke right?
I mean you’ve got a lot of people buying on the same time and the same day and then you become suddenly a bestseller.
Now, it’s a joke. And if you have a good following then you become an Amazon bestseller.
But the fact that you’ve become an Amazon bestseller is fruit of the work that you’ve been doing up until this moment to build your loyal following that buys from you.
To build those relationships that they’re willing to share your book. So, it’s not that anyone will become an Amazon bestseller even if the process is pretty simple.
You have a bunch of people buying the book, on the same day, at the same time.
And then, boom. You’re a number one bestseller if no one did the same strategy that has a bigger list than you on the same day.
So, it can be a bit of a hit and miss. However, it counts.
Even if it’s a bit of a joke and not everyone knows that, but a lot of people know it, it counts. It counts the fact that you are an Amazon, number one, bestseller.
So when you’re launching your book look at how can I leverage this? Because now, saying I’m an Amazon bestseller you can open many opportunities because they can promote you as bestselling author.
And that’s what they’re gonna promote about you.
So, just the fact of being an Amazon bestseller might not be worth much to your client, but it’s worth a lot as a PR move because then someone- Would you promote an author or bestselling author?
I would promote a bestselling author, right? That’s the truth. So make sure that you put these things in place.
And if you have a listen again to the interview with Gianluca Massini Rosati on episode 101, make sure that you listen to that, because it shares how he did his book launch, how he got people then to inquire for consulting, and he was converting them.
Now, all his infrastructure of the business was there already because he already had consultants, he already had people that would do the consultation and then convert people.
But it’s great to understand and to have as a benchmark for your book launch. So, if you already have a team, great.
Make sure that your team is ready to handle those consultations.
If it’s just yourself then great, make sure you are ready to handle those consultations and remember that once you’ve written the book it’s all about promotion.
It’s all promotion, it’s all about how many times can I repeat my story about my book and the information in this book, and how many different ways. Because that’s what is going to make people buy, this is what is gonna make the book not just a one-off book but something that people will buy from time and time again.
And the other thing is that if you’re writing the book to grow your brand, so not just to be called as an author.
If you want to just be called an author you can join other ways where there are groups of authors and you will pay your fee and they will get you to write a chapter, everyone else will write a chapter, and then you pay for it, and then they will do the editing process, they will do all the cover process, they will send you a number of copies that you can sell, and then they will do a bestselling launch.
So, that’s one of the models. But that’s not your book, that’s not your methodology, that’s you getting out there.
Now, if you want to write your book properly spend time on it.
Not just spend five days, 10 days, I mean one of our courses is how to write and publish a book in 14 days. Now, if you want to write something in that field it will take longer than 14 days.
If you want to create something just for you to have a book out there, which I highly recommend even if it’s something small, even if it’s something short, is something is always better than nothing.
But then it gives you time, it buys you time, for you to create a proper book. So, this is something that I wanted to share with you from my book experience, from my publishing experience.
And also, as I said, we are going to release in the next few months our book Explode Your Expert Biz, which I’m really excited.
Now, before the book was called Explode Your Coaching Biz and now we went through the rebranding so I was going to rewrite all the different parts, and rebuild the membership site that I started building last time. So, there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
But the book is awesome, like I put everything I know in a structured way in that freaking book. It took me a long time to write and it’s taking me a long time to write.
So, there are sometimes you have books where you will take a long time to write and that’s fine.
Don’t compare yourself with people that say oh, I launched my book in 30 days, in 12 days, in 10 days. That’s brilliant, it’s possible.
Is it going to be a book and it is going to be as good for someone who has spent a lot of time thinking about all these different pieces of the puzzle that will benefit their business?
Probably not, so take you time but also make sure that you keep going with the writing.
That has been my biggest mistake right now, that I stop with the writing and then when I stop it was very difficult to go into the flow again.
So, once you commit to it just keep going. So now, I’m going to restart again and I’m going to commit to it and just gonna be time dedicated to write and publish the book.
Because it’s crucial, otherwise something that can be published in let’s say three months, two months, five months, I don’t know, then it will drag along for years.
And that’s no good as well, so create something great but don’t let your fact of being a perfectionist stop you from there.
