There is one thing that you cannot learn in sales books but is the single most crucial feature every person in business must have.
You MUST believe in yourself and your services.
If you don’t, how the hell can you expect someone to believe in you enough to buy?
A great salesperson is a listener that inspires trust and can show, with every fibre of their being that they have your back, and they can make your life better.
When we buy, we buy the person as much as the offer.
I have learnt this in my restaurant career.
When I was 16, I worked in a restaurant in Italy that shaped the way I thought about customer service and selling.
In my local area, great local restaurants are everywhere.
(It’s Italy! Food is excellent in most places.)
In the restaurant I was working in, the food was not much better than the other places on the same street, but we were always packed.
Because our floor manager had a very particular way of treating each customer.
He made them feel special.
He was confident, professional and informal at the same time.
He knew where the boundaries were and how to be launch a cheeky joke now and then.
He could persuade someone that came in to eat a pizza, to buy a stake and a bottle of wine without being pushy and always receiving a large tip.
He was a master.
Why did people come to the restaurant?
Because of him first. The food was not the primary reason.
Working with him made me learn a lot about selling and human interactions.
If I had a very successful catering career, working in more than 100 restaurants in 8 years and managing my first Micheline star restaurant when I was 19, it was thanks to him.
Restaurant owners loved me because I could get clients to come back, spend more and have a memorable experience.
Your confidence and mannerism will inspire trust.
In particular, because of the nature of the work that we do as mentors, coaches, speakers, our clients give us their hopes, dreams, fears and if we show up in a way that can say: “I have got your back. Don’t worry. I am by your side” without using these words, your conversion rate will grow massively.
This is why it’s crucial that you are confident in yourself and your services. Otherwise, you will always going to have a hard time.

It’s a freeing sensation.
