There is one thing about selling in our industry that I believe is screwed up.
What is it?
The fact that selling is seen as a DARK activity.
Many coaches, speakers and trainers in our industry are demonising the word selling and, some, don’t even want to admit to themselves that what they are doing is selling.
They say phrases like:
“I am not selling; I am serving”.
“I don’t sell; I offer an opportunity”.
“Jump on this call, and I will not sell to you, however, if we are a good fit we can talk about the next step together”.
“I will show you how to get clients to come to you, so you don’t have to sell anymore.”
Like there is something wrong with selling.
I don’t understand why this is happening.
I might be stupid.
I don’t know.
Selling IS serving.
Selling IS giving options.
Selling IS offering opportunities.
Selling IS talking about the next step.
Selling IS getting clients to come to you.
All of the above is selling.
It has always been, and it will always be.
Of course, THE WAY people buy now is different from the way people bought 50 years ago.
There are different steps.
Social media might be involved.
However, the principle is still the same.
You are selling.
Your business needs cash, like your body needs food.
Selling is hunting or farming food for your business (If you are familiar with the terms of hunters and farmers in sales environments, you will appreciate the analogy).
The first rule to become great at selling and getting clients, no matter for what cause or business, is to be comfortable with what you are doing and realising there is nothing wrong.
It’s something necessary for you and your business to thrive or, simply, to survive.
When selling, you don’t need to choose between being a Jedi or join the Dark Side.
Selling is what it is.
It’s a tool that allows you to get in front of the right people, with the right solution.
As long as your product or service is excellent and you care about your customers, you have to do whatever you can to support that person.
If you have been resisting selling or you don’t feel comfortable asking for money, increasing your fees, pitching your program and services, you need to do something about it.
You need to do something fast!
Your business depends on it.
